My grandma passed away on the 5th, so I was not able to see her alive again. I was able to attend her funeral on Saturday, the 10th. I really enjoyed seeing my brothers, sister, mom, aunts, uncles, and cousins. It is nice when a funeral is a happy occasion.
Michale flew out of Atlanta to Washington DC as I was headed towards Atlanta late Saturday. My friend, Carrie watched the children for us, which I am very grateful for.
Since i have been home, Andrew and Edmund have been in to more messes than usual, and at the end of each day, I am exhausted!!! Thus no updates.
Only two interesting/exciting things have happened this month anyway:
1. I got new pots and pans! Pans may not seem exciting, but you have to understand that I've been using a set of pans that I bought for $10 when I was a senior in high school, and a few other cheaply acquired pans for the past 10 years. The largest, aside from my pressure canner, had a 4 quart capacity. Definitely not big enough for 8 people, I'm constantly having food boil over. The smallest pan I bought was a 4 quart saute pan, and the largest is a 12 quart stock pot with a pasta and steamer insert, so I'll not only be able to make enough for my family, I'll be able to make 2-3 meals at once to put in the freezer.
2. Carissa turned 6 years old yesterday! That will be a different post -with pictures- but first I need to take care of my little cuties.

Sad news
On Christmas, My Grandma Despain (my only remaining grandparent) was in a care center recovering from pneumonia. I called her and had a short phone call with her. I told her I've been looking froward to seeing her with my family this summer (2009).
Tonight, Jared, my brother called and told me that while she was in the care center, she took a turn for the worse, and returned to the hospital. At the hospital, the doctors decided that there was nothing that they could do to prolong her life. So she returned to her home with hospice care, where she is now. She is unable to eat or drink. She is ready to rejoin her eternal companion very soon.
I am so sad. I have decided to fly out as soon as possible to see her, hopefully before she passes. I will be leaving in the very early Tuesday AM hours, and should be at her home that evening. My return flight will be on Saturday afternoon. I hope that my time there will be positive.
My grandma was a very giving person. i have several quilts and Afghan in my home which she made for me, and a lap quilt she made for Dad when he was sick. I'm so glad I have these to remember her with.
Some things I will always remember: Her advise to me as a teenager,"Always put everything away as soon as you are done using it. Then you never had a mess." I hope she doesn't look down to closely at my home. I'm still working on following that advise. My kids aren't to good at it either.
She told me that church was always top priory for her family. While many of the other teens went to early morning seminary AFTER doing farm chores, my grandparents did many of the farm chores without the help of their teenagers and made sure Seminary was first. She thought that decision made a big difference in her children's lifetime activity in the church.
Grandma always seemed to be working. She bottled fruit each year , I especially loved her pickled asparagus. When she sat down to watch TV, she also worked on afghans. She crocheted them. She told me once that she never could master knitting. She loved to look through her cooking magazines and find new recipes.
Grandma was also very even tempered , reliable, and steady. I can't remember her getting mad, at the most she said "Now Parley".
She will be missed by me, as I'm sure she will be by all of my cousins, aunts, and uncles. Now I just pray that she can hold on for another 48 hours. I would like to tell her, in person, how much I love her.

Christmas eve in new pajamas
I wanted to get a picture of the all the children on Christmas eve with their new pajamas on. In the first, Patrick couldn't contain his excitement

The Christmas Tree Bandits
This year we decided to have a sparsely decorated Christmas Tree with only home made, non-breakable ornaments. It was a proved to be a good decision. Andrew and Edmund spent many hours undecorating the tree, and the dog knocked over the tree once.
