Colonial Cover Girl!

I was surprised this morning by find Carissa'a picture in the local newspaper. Carissa and her friends were on the front page of the community section of the paper with an article about their elementary school's 'colonial days,' where the children learned about colonial and frontier life with hands on activities led by local reenacters. Generation Gap

A conversation I had at church with Carissa was revealing about one of ther generational gaps between my children and myself:
Carissa: Where is Lily?
Mom: She is at home sick.
Carissa: What does she have?
Mom: Chichken Pox.
Carissa (incredulous): I didn't know they were real!

So that vaccine that was brand new during Aaron's babyhood has created a new generational divide. When making the decision to immunize, I thought it was a little silly to have an immunization for the illness, but decided that since my children were going to be poked anyway, I might as well spare them and itchy week. And now those of my generation will be looked at the same way we look at older generations that had measle.

And by the way-the vaccine requires a boosted shot! Lily is a 12 year old that was immunized as a baby and had not gone in for her booster yet.

This morning was the First Grade Mother's Day Program and Tea at the children's school. Carissa did a great job reciting poems and singing songs for her mother. Then there were treats, a corsage, and a present in her classroom. The present was a picture of Carissa with a frame she decorated for me. The projection board in the classromm had a slide show with pictures of all the chilren in the class with a caption about why their mom is special. Carissa's said: "My mom is special because she taught me how to sew." (We just have a lot more lessons ahead of us!)
